Bhadrachalam ( Telugu : భద్రాచలం) is a city of about 55,000 in the Indian state of Telangana . Bhadrachalam was part of the state of Andhra Pradesh until June 2, 2014 .
location
Bhadrachalam is located on the east bank of the Godavari River at an altitude of approx. 60 m above sea level. d. M. The nearest major city, Hyderabad, is approx. 300 km to the west. The climate is tropical and warm; Rain actually only falls in the summer monsoon months .
population
Almost 92% of the mostly Telugu- speaking residents are Hindus and only about 5.5% are Muslims ; the proportion of Christians is quite high at around 2%, the rest is made up of Sikhs , Buddhists and Jains . The female proportion of the population exceeds the male by a good 2%.
economy
Agriculture is still the dominant factor in the area; Traders, craftsmen and service providers of all kinds have settled in the city itself.
history
The legendary history of the place goes back a long way; Rama , his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana are said to have stayed temporarily in Parnasala , about 35 km to the north . Bhadra, a faithful follower of Vishnu or Rama is said to have performed his penance on the banks of the Godavari. Bhadrachalam is considered holy by many Hindus and is therefore visited by numerous pilgrims.
Attractions
- The most important sight of the city is the Bhadrachalarama temple from the middle of the 17th century, framed by four multi-storey gopuram gates adorned with figures . The western Gopuram facing the river bank clearly towers above the other three.
- The Yogananda Narasimha Temple , adorned with many modern images, also deserves a visit.
