Bhawani Singh

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sawai Bhawani Singh (born October 22, 1931 - April 17, 2011 ) was the 40th maharajah of the former Kingdom of Jaipur .

Bhawani Singh became maharajah of the west Indian kingdom of Jaipur in 1970, but in 1971 the Indian state abolished all royal titles and withdrew all privileges from the rulers of hundreds of small kingdoms.

Military career

In the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 Bhawani Singh was deputy commander of the Indian 10th Parachute Regiment (Commando), which became known for spectacular missions in the desert in the east of what was then West Pakistan. He was awarded the second highest military order in India, the Maha Vir Chakra . This distinction is indicated by adding the capital letters MVC to the name of the wearer. In 1974 Bhawani Singh was promoted to brigadier in his unit.

Succession

Since the Maharajah had only one biological child - a daughter - he adopted his grandson before his death in order to secure his successor. At the age of 14, he became the successor of the Maharajah. His father runs his business until he comes of age.
