Bibiani / Anhwiaso / Bekwai is a district in the Western North Region of Ghana .

geography

The district is located in the tropical rainforest zone. On average, it is 350 meters above sea level and is home to the 660 meter high Atanyamekrom Mountain, the highest point in the Western North Region.

The Ankobra is the most important river in the district, there are also its tributaries Awa, Krodua, Atronsu, Subriso, Krosieni, Akassu and Amponsah.

The approximately 100,000 inhabitants of the district today are predominantly of the Sefwi ethnic group and speak the Sefwi (or Sehwi) language of the same name . In addition to Fante , Ewe , Twi , Kasem , Frafra , Hausa , Dagbani and other languages spoken.

economy

Around 70 percent of the population work in agriculture. Kassava , plantains , corn, yams , rice and vegetables are produced for local or regional needs ; in addition cocoa , coffee and palm oil . Cattle breeding is also practiced.

In Bibiani operates Ashanti Goldfields Bibiani Limited (AGBL) gold mining in Awaso wins the Ghana Bauxite Company Limited (GBC) bauxite .
