Bienvenido Bustamante López

Bienvenido Bustamante López (born February 27, 1923 in San Pedro de Macorís , † November 15, 2001 in Santo Domingo ) was a Dominican clarinetist and composer.

Bustamante worked as an arranger for the broadcaster La Voz del Yuna and had lessons in orchestration and composition with Enrique Casal Chapí and Avelino Muñoz . In 1965 he accompanied the singer Ruth Fernández with the orchestra of the Metropolitan Opera in his own orchestration . In 1969, 1970 and 1971 songs in his arrangement won the Festival de la Canción of AMUCABA. In 1979 Bustamante was awarded the Premio El Dorado as the best arranger of the year .

In 1980 he won the composition competition of the Dominican Republic with the Fantasía criolla . In 1988 and 1990 he received the Premio Nacional de Música José Reyes for the Poema sinfónico No.1 and the Suite Macorís . In 1983 the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña awarded him an honorary professorship . He was awarded the Orden de Duarte, Sánchez y Mella by the Dominican government .

Bustamante composed orchestral works, songs, criollas , merengues and military marches.
