The Biesdorfer Promenade is a pedestrian and cycle path in the Berlin district of Biesdorf in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district .

history

Today's footpath and bike path was built in 1891 as a waterway for the underground water pipeline from the Friedrichshagen waterworks to the new Lichtenberg intermediate pumping station and was put into operation in the first stage of the Friedrichshagen waterworks in 1893. After treatment, 200,000 cubic meters of water were pumped daily through the rolled steel pressure pipes with a diameter of one meter to the Lichtenberg intermediate pumping station in order to supply the city of Berlin with drinking water. A required strip of land was purchased in preparation. The farmers were given the right to drive along and across the waterway. In the 1920s, the waterway from today's Oberfeldstraße to Luise-Zietz-Straße was expanded as a planted promenade.

After the Second World War , the first lessons for the Biesdorf students took place there when the weather was fine, because the Biesdorf school was still used as a hospital . The path was named Biesdorfer Promenade in 1977 and two years later it was opened to the public as a pedestrian and bicycle path.
