Rolf Wagner (General)

Rolf Wagner (born June 23, 1959 in Erbach) is a German Brigadier General and Director Plans & Policy at the NATO Defense College , Rome .

Military career

Rolf Wagner joined the Bundeswehr in 1978 with the 145th Panzer Artillery Battalion in Niederlahnstein . He completed his training as an officer in the artillery force at the Army Officers School in Hanover and the Artillery School in Idar-Oberstein . From 1979 to 1983 he studied geodesy (surveying) at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich . From 1983 to 1986 he was a battery officer in Wentorf with the 165 Panzer Artillery Battalion. From 1986 to 1989 he was battery chief in Hamburg with 2nd Panzer Artillery Battalion 75. This was followed by a deployment as an S2 officer in Buxtehude in the staff of the 3rd Panzer Division , before he took part in the 34th Army General Staff course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg. As head of department G4 (logistical support) he was then transferred to Munster in the staff of the Panzerlehrbrigade 9 . From 1995 to 1996 he took part in the American General Staff Training, Command and General Staff College , Fort Leavenworth , USA . From 1996 to 1998 he was on the planning staff of the Federal Minister of Defense in the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) in Bonn , before he took over as commander of the 405 tank artillery battalion in Dabel . He then went back to Hamburg to attend the Bundeswehr leadership academy, as a lecturer and tutor in the national general staff course.

From 2003 to 2004 he was a Fellow at the School of Advanced Military Studies in Fort Leavenworth, USA. From 2004 to 2007 he was department head G3 in the Multinational Corps North-East , Szczecin , Poland before he became department head central department in Ulm , command operational management intervention forces . His next transfer took him to the Allied Joint Force Command, Brunssum , as a department head , before returning to the management academy in Hamburg as head of the Army and Commissioner Heer. From July 2015 to September 2018, while being promoted to Brigadier General, he was Deputy Chief of Staff Support at the Multinational Corps North-East.

Since September 2018 he has been the Director Plans & Policy at the NATO Defense College in Rome.
