history

The history of the Bietigheim horse market begins in 1792. At that time, Duke Carl Eugen von Württemberg granted the concession for a horse and cattle market. This was first held on March 1, 1793 in the area of today's Steigerturmplatz.

The Bietigheimer horse market has taken place in its present form since 1925. On the occasion of the anniversary of the Bietigheim trade association, the horse market was combined with a trade and industrial exhibition.

With the exhibition, the achievements of trade , craft and domestic industry are on display . At that time, Bietigheim comprised 37 retail stores, 179 craft businesses and industrial companies. About 3000 people worked in the industrial plants.

On September 2, 1949, the Bietigheim horse market was revived after an interruption due to the war. The attractions of the time included a climbing pole, sack race, various carousels and a ferris wheel. Until the end of the 1950s, the horse market was expanded to include a children's festival every two years.
