List of domestic dogs

The Biewer Terrier (originally Biewer Yorkshire a la Pom Pon ) is a not from the FCI recognized dog breed from Germany , which mainly abroad, including in the United States is grown. The breed has been listed by the AKC since April 2014 with a view to possible recognition in its Foundation Stock Service . The RKF, which represents Russia in the FCI, also recognizes the Biewer. The breed standard was approved by its Presidium on April 22, 2009.

Origin and history

In 1984, in a litter of two purebred Yorkshire Terriers from the Biewer family from Hirschfeld, puppies were born whose fur had white spots , which is considered a color defect within the Yorkshire Terrier breed . The first breeders decided to select for this trait. Phenotypically stable dogs, named after their first breeder , developed relatively quickly in these coat colors . The breed is not recognized by the FCI or the German Club for Terriers (KfT).

Appearance

In contrast to the Yorkshire Terrier , the Biewer is three-colored, black, gold and white. The color distribution should be as even as possible on the body. The fur is silky, smooth and without an undercoat. The hair reaches three-quarters or all of the way to the floor and is parted in the middle of the back. The Biewer weighs 1.8 to a maximum of 3.6 kg and is approx. 22 cm tall (the size is not described in the AKC breed standard ). The contours should show a well-proportioned, compact body that still looks delicate. The head is quite small, the eyes are medium-sized and shiny. The ears are small, V-shaped and carried erect. His paws are white. Its tail is white or black and white, but the tip of the tail is always white.

Health

Due to ancestry, the gene pool of the Biewer Terrier contains hereditary traits for the same hereditary diseases that occur in the Yorkshire Terrier . Also is necrotizing encephalitis described. The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) lists the results of orthopedic examinations of dogs of this breed.
