Bifröst was an Austrian pagan metal band from Salzburg .

history

Bifröst was founded at the end of 2005 by Patrick Waldenhofer (vocals), Matthias “van Mattherhorn” Sollak (guitar, keyboard, bagpipes, various folk instruments) and Sebastian Haas (drums). At first they played Melodic Death Metal , but over time more and more traditional, folkloric influences were added until they dedicated themselves entirely to Pagan Metal. The first demo Schlachtenklänge appeared in 2006. Afterwards, Christopher Mayr (guitar) and Alexander Scharkosi (bass) two new members were added to the band. After a few appearances, Waldenhofer was replaced by Christoph Lemak. The recordings for the debut album were already started in 2008 . The album was produced by Stefan Traunmüller . With the finished album they went to Einheit Produktionen , which released the album in January 2010. There are two songs from the demo, Ragnarök and the title track Schlachtenklänge .

Sollak founded the post-black metal band Harakiri for the Sky in 2011 , in which he is still active today. After a three-year hiatus, the second album, Tor in eine neue Welt , was released in 2013 , again on unit productions. The album was produced by Krystian König. Only guitarist and main lyricist / composer Matthias "van Mattherhorn" Sollak remained from the original line-up. Instead, Ragnar (vocals), Lukas S. (drums) and Nordolf (guitar) are members of the bands Flammensturm , Nebelfront and Selbstentlibung in the band. Ragnar did some of the songwriting for the album.

On December 18, 2015 her third album with the name Mana Ewah ( ahd . For "eternal man") was released again via unit productions in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The international publication will take place on January 22, 2016. In June 2016, the band announced their breakup on the grounds of lack of time and that the individual members would like to devote themselves to different projects in the future.

Music style and lyrics

Bifröst play Pagan Metal with traditional elements. The texts come from Nordic mythology , but they are not to be understood religiously. People like to use “the entire range of clichés” and do not claim to be “philosophical or otherwise profound”. Rather, it's about having fun. Right-wing extremist activities in the pagan metal scene are firmly rejected. Among other things, the texts consist of drinking songs and short stories as well as myths and battle songs. With the arrival of Ragnar, the texts changed somewhat, away from Norse mythology, towards more personal and everyday references.
