Big Ass ( Thai : บิ๊ ก แอ ส ) is a Thai rock band from Bangkok .
Band history
The band was founded in Bangkok in 1997 and released their first album, No World, that same year. The name “Big Ass” came up when looking for a name that should be distinctive and unusual. You looked around and looked at an ass . Since this represented something "solid and robust" - rock music - but you didn't just want a normal ass , the name "Big Ass" arose from this. With the fourth album Seven , the band logo of "Big Ass" was added. The eighth title of the album is then also dedicated to the band logo, instead of the song title it bears the new band logo.
The band's second album, XL , was released in 2000, followed by My World in 2003 . For the fourth album, Seven , the band switched from the label Muci Bugs to the largest Thai label, GMM Grammy . The song Khon Mai Ao Than ( คน ไม่ เอาถ่าน ) helped the band to break through in Thailand. The most recently released single Yang Noi ( อย่าง น้อย ) comes from the soundtrack to the film Pid Term Yai Hua Jai Wa Wun .
style
The band plays mostly melodic rock, but influences from nu metal , metalcore and power metal can also be heard on the newer albums .
In the headlines
"Dax" Ekarat Wongcharat hit the headlines when a 17-year-old model claimed in 2006 that he was her baby's father. They reportedly had sex when she was 16 years old. Dax was initially arrested, but released on bail a short time later. After a DNA test it could be determined that he is not the father of the child. He was still convicted of sex with minors. He received a reduced sentence and had to undertake to write or produce two anti-drug songs.
