The Big River (English for "large river") is a 67 km long river in Mendocino County in northern California .

The Big River has its source in the California Coast Mountains 36 km east of Mendocino . The river flows through the mountains with numerous bends in a predominantly westerly direction. The South Fork Big River flow into the river from the left and the North Fork Big River from the right. The Mendocino Headlands State lies on the lower reaches of the Big River. At Mendocino this flows into Mendocino Bay , a small bay on the Pacific coast . The river drains an area of ​​469 km².

Tributaries

The North Fork Big River is a 14 miles long right tributary of the Big River. The catchment area covers around 109 km².

The South Fork Big River is a 20 miles long left tributary of the Big River. The catchment area covers about 140 km².
