The sculptor's house Sankt Margarethen is located in the Roman quarry of St. Margarethen in the market town of Sankt Margarethen in Burgenland in the Eisenstadt-Umgebung district in Burgenland . The building has been a listed building since 2016 ( list entry ).

history

From 1962 to 1968 sculptor accommodation was built according to the plans of the architect Johann Georg Gsteu . The building is the seat of the Symposium of European Sculptors Association .

architecture

The ruins of a canteen for quarry workers were the starting point for the planning and construction. The accommodation building with a common room, a kitchen and eight sleeping cells has a monastic effect. The existing sandstone masonry with a basement below was corrected and supplemented. The ceiling forming precast concrete elements (U-beam), which far outwardly protrude .
