history
Since NK Čelik Zenica had made a name for themselves in the Yugoslav First League, it was decided to build a new stadium for the club. The stadium was finally completed in 1974, the construction phase took 8 months. The previous capacity was around 30,000, but the installation of seats reduced the capacity to 18,000. Many large clubs played here, such as FK Red Star Belgrade , NK Dinamo Zagreb , FK Partizan Belgrade etc. The biggest game, however, took place in the finals of the Mitropa Cup in 1972, in which NK Čelik Zenica competed against AC Florence in their own stadium could win the trophy. In this game, the attendance record of 33,000 was set.
The Bosnian-Herzegovinian national soccer team has also been using the venue for their international matches since 1995. Many national teams played in this stadium, such as Spain , Turkey , Portugal and Greece . The Bosnian fans prefer this stadium in front of the Asim Ferhatović Hase stadium because the atmosphere should be better due to the lack of an athletics facility.
