Bill Berry

William Thomas Berry (born July 31, 1958 in Duluth , Minnesota ) was a founding member and drummer of the American alternative rock band REM for 17 years

Bill Berry met Mike Mills, later REM bassist, at Macon , Georgia high school in 1972 . After graduating from school, the two moved to Athens to study there. In 1980 they met Michael Stipe and Peter Buck , with whom they founded the band REM.

In 1995 Berry collapsed on stage during a concert in Lausanne due to a cerebral hemorrhage caused by a ruptured aneurysm . He left REM in 1997 for personal reasons. In 1999, 2003, 2005 and 2007 Berry played again on some of REM's gigs.

Berry also played with his bandmates Buck and Mills and Warren Zevon from 1984 to 1987 in the blues rock project Hindu Love Gods .
