Bill Fay (* 1943 in London ) is a British singer and songwriter.
life and work
Bill Fay grew up in north London. When he was 18, he began studying electronics at Bangor University in Wales and writing music on the side. In mid-1965 he returned to London, where he recorded the first demo versions of his songs. Decca Records noticed him and offered him a contract. In 1967 the single Some Good Advice appeared on the Decca label Deram , but it was unsuccessful. Nevertheless, Decca financed two albums : the debut Bill Fay came out in 1970 and Time of the Last Persecution a year later . Both records were commercial failures and Fay's record deal with Decca was not renewed.
In 1998, Fay's albums were re-released on CD by the British label See for Miles Records . As a result, younger musicians became interested in Fay and his music, such as Jeff Tweedy and Jim O'Rourke . David Tibet released two collections of demos and isolated studio recordings from 1966 to 1981 on his Durtro label in 2004 and 2007 .
In 2012, Life Is People Fay's first regular studio album since 1971 was released. The comeback was consistently well received by the press. With Who Is the Sender? Another followed in 2015, again on the US independent label Dead Oceans .
Fay took part in the musician project Our First 100 Days in 2017 .
Bill Fay lives in Greater London.
