Bill Hemmans

William Wesley "Bill" Hemmans (* 1942 in Waycross , Georgia ; † 14. June 2011 in Rock Hill , South Carolina ) was an American saxophonist of rhythm and blues .

Hemmans graduated from Florida A&M University with a bachelor's degree and served in the Navy. He played with Ike & Tina Turner , Bobby Bland throughout his career ; he also appeared with BB King and Muddy Waters in the Dramatics Show Band . As a soloist, he had a hit in the late 1960s with a cover version of the jazz standard Summertime . In the early 1970s he worked with his formation Bill Hemmans & Clays Composite , and at the end of the decade with his own quartet.
