Bill Miller (born January 23, 1955 ) is an American musician , songwriter and flautist of Native American descent .

Bill Miller's The Last Stand (2008) commemorates the Battle of Little Bighorn during the Great Sioux War of 1876/77. In 2004 Spirit Rain and Cedar Dream Songs were released , a mixture of Western Music , Native American Folk and Blues . For Cedar Dream Songs he received the 2005 Grammy Award for Best Native American Music Album . This instrumental CD contains nine pieces played on a Native American flute . In Spirit Rain he goes back to his roots. He sings about life in tracks like I Believe and Love Sustained . In instrumentals such as Approaching Thunder , Sun Dog and Red Sky Heart , he plays an Indian flute , 1st Dream is a chant and drum song by members of the Ho Chunk Indians. For Ghost Dance he received the Native American Music Award in 2000 .

He is the son of mohican- German parents and grew up in the Mahicanuk reservation . Its Indian name, Fush-Ya Heay Ka , means bird song .

He received a Grammy Award for Best Native American Music Album and five Nammys ( Native American Music Awards ) as Artist of the Year , Songwriter of the Year , Album of the Year and Song of the Year .
