Bill Vint

Bill Vint - full name Arthur Kingsley Vint - (* 1906 ; † January 7, 1993 ) was an English table tennis official . He worked in the English table tennis association ETTA and in the world association ITTF .

English table tennis association ETTA

From 1931 to 1973 he worked for the English Table Tennis Association ETTA in various positions. First he became treasurer in 1931, from 1950 he also took over the office of general secretary. At the end of 1957 he became President (Chairman). In 1962 he resigned to succeed the late T. Austin Harrisson as President from 1970 to 1973. He retired in 1973 and was succeeded by Maurice Goldstein.

World Association ITTF

After the Second World War , Vint took on responsibility in the ITTF. From 1947 he worked as treasurer for 22 years. He then took over the post of Secretary General (Treasurer) until 1977. During this time he drove the establishment of the ITTF Secretariat in Hastings. In 1977 he was made an honorary member and council consultant for life.

In 1967 Vint became an honorary member of the Swaythling Club International .

Awards

For his services to table tennis, Vint has received several awards:

  • 1957: OBE, the fourth stage of the Order of the British Empire
  • 1982: Honorary Member of the Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation
  • 1985/86: Honorary President for life (Hon. Life Vice President) of the English Table Tennis Association ETTA
  • 1989: Vint is the first to receive the ITTF Merit Award
  • 1997: Induction into the ITTF Hall of Fame
