The English Table Tennis Association is the leading organization for English table tennis .
history
The ETTA was preceded by the two associations The Table Tennis Association , which was founded on December 12, 1901, and The Ping Pong Association , which was established on December 16, 1901. These merged on May 1, 1903 under the name The Table Tennis Association . Since interest in table tennis declined in England during these years, the association dissolved again in 1904.
In 1922 the association was re-established and on April 24, 1927 renamed The English Table Tennis Association (ETTA) , the chairmanship was Ivor Montagu (1927-1931 and 1958-1966). In 1927 the ETTA became a member of the world association ITTF .
The first international match took place on March 9, 1923 in London. With GJ Ross (reserve player), T. Hollingworth, GW Decker, Percival Bromfield , E. Tapper, RH Berry (reserve player), G. Belston, AF Carris, JW Swann and E. Woods, the men's team defeated Wales 52:12 .
