The Billrothgymnasium is a school of the Federation in the Billrothstraße in the 19th Vienna district Döbling . The school is named after Theodor Billroth .

history

In 1903, with the support of Yella Hertzka, Salome Goldmann founded a private school - the Cottage Lyceum - in a private apartment at Kreindlgasse 3; the Cottage Lyceum was granted public rights in 1905 for 1st grade. 1905/06 later the school moved into the newly built house at Gymnasiumstrasse 79, which Yella Hertzka made available.

In 1921 Salomon had to give up maintaining the school due to financial difficulties, but the association founded by parents and professors to maintain the Döblinger Girls' Middle School was able to continue the school.

In 1935 the state porcelain manufacturer Augarten acquired a building at Billrothstrasse 28-30 and expanded it with a garden wing with four modern classrooms.

When Austria was annexed to Hitler's Germany in 1938 , the Jewish teachers and students had to leave the school and the school was nationalized. After the war, the school building was also used by the Neulandschule from 1945 . With Federal Minister Udo Illig from the Federal Ministry for Trade and Reconstruction , the groundbreaking for a new school building took place in 1956, which was consecrated in 1960 with Archbishop Franz König at the opening and called BRG for girls and women's high school . Since 1977/1978 boys have also been allowed to attend school.
