William David "Bill" Christian (born January 29, 1938 in Warroad , Minnesota ) is a former American ice hockey player . At the 1960 Winter Olympics , he won the gold medal as a member of the US national team.

Career

Bill Christian spent most of his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown with the amateur team Warroad Lakers , where he also played with his two sons. From 1959 to 1961, the attacker also played a few professional games for the Seattle Totems from the Western Hockey League . Together with his brother Roger and his brother-in-law Hal Bakke he founded the company Christian Brother's Hockey Sticks . Christian was honored with induction into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984 . In 1998 he was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame .

International

For the USA , Christian took part in the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley and 1964 in Innsbruck . At the 1960 Winter Games, he and his team won the gold medal.

His brothers Gordon and Roger were also ice hockey players and took part in the Winter Olympics for the USA, with Roger also becoming an Olympic champion in 1960. His sons Dave and Ed also became ice hockey professionals. Dave continued the family's Olympic tradition and also became an Olympic champion in 1980. His grandson Brock Nelson is now also a professional ice hockey player.
