Billy Kelleher ( Irish Liam Ó Céilléachair , born January 20, 1968 in Cork ) is an Irish politician ( Fianna Fáil ) and has been a member of the European Parliament since 2019 .

Life

Kelleher attended Upper Glanmire National School and then Sacred Heart College in Carrignavar , County Cork . He then attended Pallaskenry Agricultural College in County Limerick . Kelleher was now working as a farmer.

In 1992 he ran for the first time for the Fianna Fáil in elections for Dáil Éireann . However, he did not succeed in gaining a mandate. In 1993 he was appointed Senator in the 20th Seanad Éireann by Taoiseach Albert Reynolds . In the next elections for Dáil Éireann in 1997, Kelleher was able to win a seat in the constituency of Cork North Central this time . He left the Seanad Éireann. In 2002 and 2007 he managed to defend his seat in the Dáil. As a member of parliament, he held the post of Minister of State several times . From June 2007 to April 2009 he was Minister of State for Labor Affairs and from April 2009 to March 2011 Minister of State for Trade and Development .

Kelleher is married and has three children.
