Bingöl Dağı (also: Bingöl Dağları or Bingöl Mountains - "Mountains of a Thousand Lakes") is the name of a mountain range that extends from the south of Erzurum through the north of Muş to Bingöl .
The plateau is of volcanic origin. It forms the headwaters of the macaw . The mountains are located on the western edge of the Armenian Highlands at the interface with the Dersim Mountains of the Inner Taurus . The largest elevation reaches a height of 3250 m (according to other sources 3189 m ). Heinrich Kiepert stated in his work Formae orbis antiqui an altitude of 3690 m and Blanchard of 2977 m . The Dağkale Tepesi in Erzurum reaches a height of 3193 m . There are many prehistoric lakes. To the south, the mountains fall to the Bingöl basin , through which the Murat flows. The Bingöl Mountains are covered with shrub vegetation .
In classical geography, the mountain range is called Abos Mons or Albus Mons . Armenian legends made the massif an earthly paradise. The massif was given the name in 1945, although Tavernier was also using the name.
