Biotechnological high school

A biotechnological high school (short: BTG ) is a vocational high school . At the initiative of the state government of Baden-Württemberg , this form of vocational high school was created under the government of Erwin Teufel . Currently (2012) around 30 schools in Baden-Württemberg offer this type of school. There are also vocational high schools in Hesse , Saxony and Saarland with a focus on biology and biotechnology.

history

The aim of the biotechnological high school is a biotechnologically educated population. The first biotechnological high school was founded in Baden-Württemberg, followed by Bavaria and Saxony. There are now 24 biotechnological high schools in Baden-Württemberg alone. The main difference between the biotechnological grammar school and the other vocational grammar schools is its biotechnology major . In this subject, students learn basic techniques such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR), polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE), modification of bacteria by plasmids , genetic engineering , cloning , immunology ,Metabolism and fermentation techniques .
