Bipyridines

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under bipyridines a group one summarizes organic compounds together. As a common structural element, they have two pyridine rings that are directly linked to one another. Since there are three different linkage positions on each pyridine molecule , there are six possible isomers for the formation of the basic structure . The isomers 2,2 ' -, 3,3' - and 4,4'-bipyridine are formally symmetrical , 2,3 ' -, 2,4' - and 3,4'-bipyridine are asymmetrical. 2,2'- and 4,4'-bipyridines have become important ligands in complex chemistry .
