Birgit Gärtner

Birgit Gärtner (born May 1, 1969 in Schwerin ) is a German legal scholar and political official . She has been State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since 2011 .

Life

Gärtner studied law at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg between 1987 and 1991 , obtained the academic degree of "Diplom Jurist", completed the special preparatory service from 1991 to 1994 with the completion of the second state examination in Düsseldorf , was a consultant at the from 1994 to 1997 Office for Rehabilitation and Reparation at the Ministry of Justice and Affairs of the European Union of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and was from 1997 to 2003 a consultant in the State Judicial Examination Office at the Ministry of Justice of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

In 2003 the legal scholar was seconded to the Schwerin Public Prosecutor's Office. As a result, she was appointed public prosecutor in 2005 and worked as a special department head in the department for capital offenses, state security matters and proceedings of political importance . After being seconded to the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Ministry of Justice , where she was head of the personnel department for the penal system and social services until 2009 and public relations officer on the minister’s staff from 2009 , she was transferred to the Ministry of Justice in April 2011 and at the same time appointed as government director .

She succeeded Rainer Dopp and has been a member of the Sellering III cabinet since November 2016 .
