Birgit Heide

Birgit Heide is a German prehistoric archaeologist and has been the director of the Landesmuseum Mainz since August 1, 2017 .

Professional background

Heide studied Prehistory and Early History at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and received his doctorate in 1997 with the dissertation The older Neolithic in western Kraichgau . Heide worked as a research assistant at the Museum of Prehistory and Early History of the National Museums in Berlin .

In August 1999 she began working at the Landesmuseum Mainz as a research assistant, then as head of the archaeological department and deputy director, most recently as acting director. Heide curated numerous special exhibitions, including the archaeological state exhibition 2017 vorZEITEN - Archaeological Treasures on the Rhine and Moselle . In July 2017, she was appointed to succeed Andrea Stockhammer as the new director of the Landesmuseum Mainz.
