Birgit Schneider (Librarian)
Birgit Schneider (born August 6, 1954 in Stuttgart , † July 19, 2007 in Leipzig ) was a German librarian .
Life
Schneider initially studied history and German at the universities in Stuttgart and Tübingen . Following her state examination, she completed a legal clerkship for library service at academic libraries. In 1987 she joined the Württemberg State Library in Stuttgart , where she was deputy director from 1994 onwards. In 2001 she was appointed director of the German National Library in Leipzig by Federal President Johannes Rau . She was also the permanent representative of the Director General of the German National Library Elisabeth Niggemann .
