Birgit Schwebs

Birgit Schwebs (born January 23, 1962 in Altwarp ) is a German state politician of the party Die Linke . The studied philosopher and educator was 1998-2011 Landtag of the Parliament of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern . From November 2008 until she left the state parliament, she was chairwoman of the finance committee.

She last ran for election in constituency 11 ( Bad Doberan I) and moved into the state parliament via the state list. It was not re-established for the state elections in 2011. Birgit Schwebs was chairwoman of the Bad Doberan district association of her party until 2011.

In March 2006 Schwebs signed the founding appeal of the anti-capitalist left (AKL) observed by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) and classified as left-wing extremist . In 2011, together with Torsten Koplin , Barbara Borchardt and other leading leftists in her regional association, she signed a paper praising the construction of the Berlin Wall and describing it as " without a sensible alternative for the tours of the Soviet Union and the GDR". Democratic West Berlin had been used to “destabilize the GDR”. The Iron Curtain stands for "a period of peaceful coexistence in Europe".

Schwebs is non-denominational, married and has one child. She lives in the Satow district of Hanstorf.
