Birte Pauls (born December 19, 1965 in Oersberg ) is a Schleswig-Holstein politician ( SPD ) and a member of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament .

education and profession

Birte Pauls trained as a nurse from 1984 to 1988 after graduating from secondary school . In 1988 she passed the nursing exam and in 1992 the specialist exam for intensive care at the Martin Luther Hospital (MLK) in Schleswig. From 1993 she worked in cardiac surgery at the Copenhagen Heart Center in Copenhagen . In 1998 she took over the management of the internal intensive care unit of the Martin Luther Hospital Schleswig and since 2001 she has been an employee of the Dansk Sundhedstjeneste for Sydslesvig , the social station of the Danish minority .

politics

Birte Pauls has been a member of the SPD since 1989 and is a member (from 2003 to 2013 as chairwoman) of the Schleswig local association board, the district board and, since May 2005, the state board.

In terms of local politics, she was a civic member of the Steinfeld municipal council and a civic member of the SPD district parliamentary group. From 2003 to 2013 she was a councilor in the city council of Schleswig, since 2013 a civil member. The federal state of Schleswig-Holstein has been represented in the Nordic Council with observer status since 2016 . Birte Pauls and Jette Waldinger-Thiering ( SSW ) act as observers.

In 2009 she was elected to the Schleswig-Holstein State Parliament, where she is a member of the European Committee. In 2012 she did not succeed in moving back in, but she moved up again in the second session of the state parliament because Anette Langner left the state parliament with her appointment as State Secretary in the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Family and Equality of the State of Schleswig-Holstein. She has also been a member of the Social Committee since 2012. In the 2017 state elections , she again entered parliament via the SPD's state list.

Paul's political focus is on nursing, hospice, obstetrics for the elderly, minorities and cross-border cooperation with Denmark.

She is deputy parliamentary group leader and social policy spokeswoman for the SPD parliamentary group
