Birth of Joy is a Dutch rock band that was formed in 2005 at the Herman Brood Academy in Utrecht. After numerous live performances in the Netherlands, the band was signed to the Dutch indie label Suburban Records after a performance at the Zwarte Cross Festival 2011 . Appearances at Rencontres Trans Musicales and at the Eurosonic Noorderslag Festival in Groningen , which u. a. was supported by the WDR Rockpalast , made the group known outside of the Netherlands. The name of the band is an allusion to Friedrich Nietzsche's work The Birth of Tragedy from the Spirit of Music .
style
The band's music is influenced by the blues and psychedelic rock scene of the late 1960s and early 1970s, borrowed from rock 'n' roll and boogie woogie , but developed its own powerful and differentiated sound from these specifications . MC5 and The Doors are named as role models , the latter is also reflected in the unusual live line-up without bass.
