The Bischofsplatz in Dresden is a square in the Leipziger Vorstadt district . It is a “distinctive area that shapes the cityscape” and has the character of a typical working-class neighborhood from the early days of the company .

location

The square is located near the Hechtviertel and Scheunenhof district . The Leipzig – Dresden / Pirna – Coswig railway runs across Bischofsplatz . The Bischofsweg joins to the east . The Inner Neustädter Friedhof is to the south.

history

In 1926, the TeBe cinema planned by Martin Pietzsch opened at Bischofsplatz 4 with 500 seats, which was later also referred to as TB-Lichtspiele or Theater am Bischofsplatz and was open until the end of the 1960s. During the Second World War, the Bischofsplatz was not destroyed, which allowed it to retain its character. That's why Kurt Maetzig shot his Thälmann film here .

The square was extensively redesigned in 2012 as part of a district development project with the help of the ERDF .

The Römmler houses (Bischofsplatz 12–16; named after the photographer Emil Römmler (1842–1941; Verlag Römmler & Jonas ), who provided the financing) and the apartment building at Bischofsplatz 4 are listed (see list of cultural monuments in Neustadt ).

traffic

The square is connected to the Dresden tram network via a stop of the same name . The nearby Dresden-Neustadt train station can only be reached via local public transport from Bischofsplatz and the densely populated districts that surround it . Since March 20, 2016 there has been a stop on the Dresden S-Bahn (line S1 Meißen – Schöna). There is also a TeilAuto car sharing station on site.

In 2017, 2300 boarders per day were counted at the breakpoint.
