The Bismarck oak near Oberkotzau is a natural monument on Untreusee in the Upper Franconian district of Hof .

The oak was planted on April 1, 1895 for Otto von Bismarck's 80th birthday by Schödel, a private owner from Oberkotzau. It is located on the Eppenreuther Weg on the Schaumberg between Untreusee and Oberkotzau. The tree is there on the edge of the forest.

The tree was supposed to be felled in 1932 and the neighbor in the field complained about the spreading tree, the shade of which impaired the growth of the crops. The owner refused on the grounds that he did not want to commit the same mistake as Wilhelm II with the removal . In 1952 and 1953 a total of seven strong branches were cut off by strangers. Under District Administrator Heinz Schulze , the Bismarck oak was then placed under nature protection in October 1953 (see also the list of natural monuments in the district of Hof ).

The circumference of the trunk was 4.66 meters in 2018, making the oak the winner of the competition looking for the “thickest” oak in the district. The circumference was 2.70 meters in 1952 and 4.00 meters in 1995.

The second natural monument in the municipality of Oberkotzau is within sight of the path from the direction of “Am Wendler”, a linden tree in the field. The third natural monument and geotope is the abandoned eclogite quarry above Fattigau .
