The Linhai Diocese ( Latin : Dioecesis Taeceuvensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Linhai in the People's Republic of China .

history

Pope Pius XI founded the Apostolic Vicariate Taichow with the Breve Supremi apostolatus on August 10, 1926 from cessions of territory from the Apostolic Vicariate Ningpo . Joseph Hu Jo-shan was one of the first six Chinese bishops to be elected by Pius XI. were ordained bishop on October 28, 1926.

With the Apostolic Constitution Quotidie Nos it was raised to the diocese on April 11, 1946. After the death of Joseph Hu Joo-shan, the diocese had no official or illegal bishop. On July 10, 2010, after nearly 50 years, the first bishop of the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association was ordained, Anton Xu Jiwei , former Apostolic Administrator of the same diocese since 1999.
