The Diocese of Tunsberg (Norwegian: Tunsberg bispedøme ) is one of the eleven dioceses of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Norway . Jan Otto Myrseth has been bishop since 2018 . The cathedral is Tønsberg Cathedral .

history

The Tunsberg diocese was founded in 1948. Until then, its territory, the provinces ( Fylken ) Vestfold and Buskerud , which were dissolved in 2020, belonged to the diocese of Oslo . There had been plans to divide this diocese as early as 1936, but they could only be taken up again after Norway was liberated from German occupation. Bjarne Skard became the first bishop .

scope

The diocese comprises 111 parishes in ten provosts (Norwegian prosti ). Of the 526 197 inhabitants in the area, 359 239 (= 69.28%) belonged to the Church of Norway at the end of 2016.
