The diocese of Borg (Norwegian: Borg bispedøme ) is one of the eleven dioceses of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Norway . Atle Sommerfeldt has been bishop since 2012 , after his predecessor Helga Haugland Byfuglien was elected President of the Bishops' Conference of the Church of Norway. The cathedral is Fredrikstad Cathedral .

history

The diocese of Borg was founded in 1969. Until then, his area, the former provinces ( Fylken ) Østfold and Akershus (excluding the municipalities Asker and Bærum , which remained with the diocese of Oslo) belonged to the diocese of Oslo . Per Lønning became the first bishop .

scope

The diocese comprises 105 parishes in 9 provosts (Norwegian prosti ). With 493,325 parishioners (as of 2017) it is the largest number of members in the Norwegian dioceses.
