Fredrikstad Domkirke
The Evangelical Lutheran Cathedral in Fredrikstad (Norwegian: Fredrikstad Domkirke ( bokmål ) or Fredrikstad Domkyrkje ( Nynorsk )) is located in the southern Norwegian city of Fredrikstad and is the cathedral church of the diocese of Borg .
Building
The church was designed as a parish church by Ferdinand Waldemar Lühr and built in neo-Gothic form in 1879/80 . The brick church was consecrated as Fredrikstad Vestre kirke (West Church) in October 1880 and can accommodate around 1,100 people. The church has a 72 m high bell tower integrated into the facade.
The western church owes its spatial impression to the restoration of 1954. It was not raised to the rank of episcopal church until the diocese of Borg was founded in 1969.
Furnishing
The stained glass was created in 1917 by Emanuel Vigeland, the picture on the main altar by Axel Revold. The pulpit was carved by Anthon Røvik.
organ
The organ was built in 1964 by the Danish organ builder Marcussen & Søn . The slider chests -instrument has 54 registers (about 4,000 pipes ) on four manuals and pedal . The playing and stop actions are mechanical.
