Biye Bandele

Biyi Bandele-Thomas (born October 13, 1967 in Kafanchan, Kaduna State , Nigeria ) is a Nigerian writer . He became known as a writer of short stories and novels, as well as a playwright . Among other things, he adapted Chinua Achebes Things Fall Apart for the theater stage. Some of Biyi Bandele's novels have been translated into other languages ​​and are available in German translation.

Life

Biyi Bandele was born on October 13, 1967 in northern Nigeria, in Kafanchan, Kaduna State , to a local Yoruba family. He spent the first 18 years of his life here before moving to Lagos . From 1987 to 1990 he studied Theater Studies at the Department of Dramatic Art at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife , Oyo State . He won first prize in a competition for his play Rain , a grant for a year-long stay in London . He has lived in London since 1990.
