Björgvin Björgvinsson (born January 11, 1980 in Dalvík ) is a former Icelandic ski racer .
biography
Björgvin Björgvinsson was like Kristinn Björnsson , the most successful Icelandic skier to date, mainly slalom runner . However, compared to his compatriot, Björgvin's successes were more modest. Since his youth he started in a few hundred races, but only in lower-rated competitions such as FIS races or national championships did he achieve victories or top places. In the European Cup he achieved four placements among the top ten - all of them in indoor races in the ski halls of Landgraaf and Amnéville . After his World Cup debut in Todtnau in 2000, Björgvin competed in most of the European World Cup slaloms since the 2004/05 season . He qualified for the second round and won World Cup points twice: On January 6, 2009, he finished 25th in the slalom in Zagreb , and exactly one year later again in Zagreb 24th.
Björgvin Björgvinsson took part in Alpine World Championships four times ( St. Anton am Arlberg 2001 , St. Moritz 2003 , Bormio 2005 and Åre 2007 ), where he competed in giant slalom as well as in slalom . His best World Championship result is 28th place in the slalom in Bormio. He was a member of the Icelandic Olympic team in Salt Lake City in 2002 and in Turin in 2006 . In 2002 he was eliminated twice in two attempts, in 2006 he finally achieved a good Olympic result with 22nd place in the slalom.
In April 2013 Björgvin resigned from top-class sport.
