Bjorn Dahlbäck

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Björn Dahlbäck (* 1949 ) is a Swedish doctor ( hematology , cardiology ).

Dahlbäck received his doctorate in 1981 from Lund University (The activation of prothrombin on the platelet surface) and is a professor there. He is also at Malmö General Hospital.

He deals with blood clotting mechanisms and lipoproteins. He investigated the role of protein C , which has an anticoagulant effect, and formulated the hypothesis that defects in the function of the protein due to genetic anomalies (mutation in factor V, factor V Leiden mutation ) are common causes of thrombosis. Dahlbäck also developed a corresponding test.

In 1999 he was one of the discoverers of apolipoprotein M (APOM), which is found in HDL and, as a carrier of S1P, plays a role in the protection of endothelial cells from butt vessel walls. He is also concerned with TFPI (tissue factor pathway inhibitor), an inhibitor of blood coagulation and the role of TAM receptors and their ligands in endothelial cells.

In 1996 he received the Louis Jeantet Prize . He is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences .
