Garem Alwin Komolong (born November 2, 1995 in Lae , Papua New Guinea ) is a Papua New Guinea football player who also has German citizenship. The central defender is a multiple national player for Papua New Guinea .
Career
Alwin Komolong started playing football in Brisbane, Australia when she was six years old . Since his mother is German and the central defender himself has German citizenship and the family moved to Germany, he played for VfR Eckernförde there. Komolong was already convincing in his youth and so he was used in the U-17 national team of Papua New Guinea in 2011 . Further good performances at the New Zealand second division team Waitakere City FC , as well as in his home country, where he played with his younger brother Felix Komolong at Madang FC, helped the defender to further appearances in various national U-teams in his home country. After attending Northern Kentucky University in the USA and serving on the college team, Komolong made it into the Papua New Guinean senior national team .
On July 16, 2017, the international signed a contract with the Stuttgarter Kickers . After twelve games for Kickers and a five-month injury break, the contract was not extended at the end of the 2017/18 season after relegation to the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg . He then completed a trial training at the Czech second division club FK Pardubice , but did not get hired there.
In January 2019, the German third division club SC Fortuna Köln signed the defender. With his debut on July 7th against Hansa Rostock , Komolong became the first Papua New Guinean to be used in German professional football. He left the club at the end of the 2018/19 season. Beginning in 2020, he joined in his home country, along with his brother Felix , the Lae City FC at.
Alwin Komolong's brothers Felix (* 1997) and Kusuga (* 1998) are also national soccer players in Papua New Guinea.
