Felix Dirik Komolong (born March 6, 1997 ) is a Papua New Guinea football player on the position of defender . In addition to the Papua New Guinea citizenship, he also has German citizenship, as his mother is German.

Career

Felix Komolong began his career with the Papua New Guinean club Besta United PNG , which plays in the country's top division. The club occupies a special position in league operations, as it consists exclusively of players from the U-20 national team . Meanwhile, he attended the Anglican King's College in Auckland , New Zealand . There he played in the junior team First XI.

He made his first international appearance in the U-17 national team in 2013 at the U-17 Oceania Cup . There he took part in four out of five games. Because of his appearances there, he was appointed to the U-20 national team by national coach Wynton Rufer . There he acted as captain during the U-20 Oceania Cup in May 2014 in Fiji .

Through good relations with his former German club Werder Bremen , Wynton Rufer managed to draw the club's attention to Komolong. Bremen then invited him to complete a three-week trial training session in Germany from the end of September 2014.

As a member of the U23 national team, Felix Komolong took part in the 14th Pacific Games in July 2015 , where Papua New Guinea came third as the host. After completing his studies in New Zealand, he joined Madang FC in December 2015 with his older brother Alwin Komolong . In February 2016, Felix Komolong was loaned to Hekari United FC , with whom he played in the OFC Champions League . In the following month, the new national coach Flemming Serritslev brought him into the training squad. Felix Komolong and his brother were part of the national team at the 2016 Oceania Cup . Felix Komolong wore the number 5 and was used in the three preliminary rounds (also World Cup qualification Oceania ), semi-finals and final, where Papua New Guinea finally lost to New Zealand on penalties.

For the 2016/17 season Komolong moved to New Zealand first division club Canterbury United Dragons .

After a brief stint at Madang FC , Komolong went to the United States to study at Northern Kentucky University . There he played for Northern Kentucky Norse. In early 2020 he joined Lae City FC in his home country, along with his brother Alwin .

Others

In his youth, Felix Komolong played for a year in Osterby in Schleswig-Holstein . During this time there was also cooperation with the Osterby trainer Herbert Wandel, who especially improved his flanks and his sprinting ability. This was subsequently rated by Komolong as essential for his further career. His brother Alwin Komolong , who is two years older, is also a footballer, as is her younger brother Kusuga (* 1998). All three currently play for the Papua New Guinean national football team.
