Björn Rosengren (Manager)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Björn Rosengren (* 1959 ) is a Swedish manager . He has been Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the ABB Group since March 2020 .

Live and act

Rosengren grew up in Sweden and graduated with a master's degree from Chalmers Gothenburg University of Technology . His professional career took place almost entirely in Sweden. From 1998 to 2011 he worked for Atlas Copco in various management positions. Then as CEO of Wärtsilä until 2015 . For the last six years before joining the ABB Group, he was CEO of the Sandvik Group. His management style is considered indecent. He delegates tasks and competencies far downwards and thus ensures a large amount of freedom. With this concept he was able, among other things, to bring about a successful reorganization of the Sandvik Group, which was reflected in a significant increase in the company's value and share price. He is seen as a quick decision-maker - qualities that were obviously desired for the position of the new ABB CEO.

FIG

Even in his first 100 days as the new ABB CEO, the implementation of Rosengren's credo and strategy of the decentralized organization became visible: The hierarchical structure of the ABB Group was significantly softened and responsibility was delegated to the 18 business units (divisions) while at the same time the headquarters were in Zurich is being streamlined. Corporate headquarters such as that of the Chief Digital Officer are also being deleted without replacement in order to allow the business units to act independently. Even the digital platform ABB Ability will in future no longer be developed by the group, but by the business units. The distribution of responsibilities helps to make decisions faster and more efficient, is quoted in a strategy paper.

Preferred candidate for Swedish investors

The influence of Swedish investors in ABB should be strengthened. According to media reports, the Wallenberg family of ABB investors in particular longed for a compatriot to head the ABB Group. Apparently, the role of the nationality of Ulrich Spiesshofer's successor played a not unimportant role in filling the CEO position. The Frenchman Greg Poux-Guillaume was considered the most successful side candidate .

Private

Rosengren is married to his wife Cecilia, who is 8 years his junior. He is the father of three grown daughters and is known as a passionate skier and golfer. Since joining ABB, he has lived in the Zurich community of Meilen .
