Björn Valur Gíslason

Björn Valur Gíslason (born September 20, 1959 in Ólafsfjörður ) is an Icelandic politician of the left-green movement .

Björn Valur Gíslason had been a seaman since 1975 and, among other things, was the long-time chairman of the Skippers and Helmsmen's Association of Norðurland . In what was then Ólafsfjörður ( Ólafsfjarðarbær ), he was a local councilor for the Left and Independent from 1986 to 1998 . From 2009 to 2013 he was a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing for the Northeastern constituency . There he was active in various committees, including as Vice President of the Budget Commission and Chairman of the Communications and Transport Committee. He was a member of the Icelandic delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly . From 2011 to 2012 he was parliamentary group leader of the Left-Green movement, from 2013 to 2017 he was deputy chairman of the party.

Björn Valur Gíslason is also a musician and member of the band Roðlaust og beinlaust . The band, which is made up of the crew of a trawler , was the subject of a 2011 documentary that was nominated for the Icelandic Edda Film Prize.
