Bjørkedal is a village in the western Norwegian municipality of Volda in the Fylke Møre og Romsdal . The village is on the European route 39 between Nordfjordeid and Volda by the lake Bjørkedalsvatnet. Not far south of Bjørkedal is the border between Møre og Romsdal and Vestland . Until the end of 2019, this was the border with the now dissolved province of Sogn og Fjordane .

Shipbuilding

Bjørkedal is known for its long tradition as a boat building community. Bjørkedal was created in particular through the construction of traditional wooden boats of the Sunnmørsbåt type , but also through the reconstruction of Viking ships such as the Oseberg ship ( Dronningen ), the Gokstad ship ( Gaia ), the Borgundknarren , the Kvalsund boat and the Saga Siglar , a reconstruction of the Skuldelev I. known.
