The Black Glacier is a side glacier of the Lillie Glacier in East Antarctica Victoria Land . It flows in a northeastern direction and marks the southeastern edge of the Bowers Mountains .
The area was mapped through the United States Geological Survey and aerial photography from the United States Navy from 1960 to 1962. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the glacier after the US geologist Robert F. Black (1918-1983) from the University of Wisconsin , who was involved in numerous research campaigns in the region around McMurdo Sound in the 1960s .
