Tadeusz Chmiel

Tadeusz Chmiel (born November 21, 1956 in Chmielek in the powiat Biłgorajski ) is a Polish entrepreneur. He is the founder and majority shareholder of the furniture company Black Red White and is counted among the richest Poles. His fortune was estimated at around 450 million euros in the annually updated rich list of the Polish edition of Forbes magazine in 2013, which put him in 10th place on this list.

Life

Not much is known about Chmiel's résumé; the entrepreneur avoids public appearances and refuses interviews. His business started in the 1980s when he started making furniture in the family workshop. He developed woodworking machines himself in order to be able to produce larger quantities. At first he sold his products on regional markets. After initial success, the first factory was built in Biłgoraj and in 1992 the Black Red White company was founded. Today the group comprises 21 furniture factories in different countries (in Poland also in Zamosc , Mielec and Chmielek) and is the largest furniture producer in Poland with a market share of 20%. The group has 2,300 sales outlets (agents) and employs around 10,000 people. A third of the furniture produced is sold abroad. Chmiel owns the majority in the company, while his partner, Stanisław Bosak, holds further shares. In 2008, the Lügder company Bega Consult took over the German sales company of the Black Red White Group and with it the marketing of the products of the Polish producer in the German-speaking area and in the Benelux countries.
