The Black River is a river in Jamaica . It takes its name from the deep black river bed. With a length of 53.4 kilometers, it was considered the longest river on the island for a long time until the length of the Rio Minho was redefined at 92.8 kilometers.

The river comes from the mountains of Cockpit Country . It flows into the sea at the end of the town of Black River , which derives its name from this body of water. In the area of the Cockpit Country it runs partly underground. It used to supply a large swamp area in its estuary, which has now been largely drained.
