Blackfoot was an American rock band that began making their mark on southern rock at the same time as Lynyrd Skynyrd .
history
The real breakthrough came when they changed their style and went from a Southern band to a hard rock band . They created the hit album Strikes and several successful single releases such as Train, Train and Highway Song . The latter became a southern rock anthem like Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. They had these hits in the late 1970s and early 1980s before the band disappeared from the public eye.
In 1975 they signed a record deal with Island Records, but switched to Epic Records a year later. But they didn't stay long here either. In 1979 they signed to Atco and after a long hiatus they released the album Strikes . The records Tomcattin and Marauder were made for the same label . In the mid-1980s, ex- Uriah Heep mastermind and keyboardist Ken Hensley joined the band and began to change the sound of the group. But the band's success waned. Ken Hensley was replaced, but the band's history was already drawing to a close. In 1984 the band broke up before a definitive new line-up was established.
It was not until 1990 that the band was reformed with a new line-up under founding member Rickey Medlocke, before he finally switched to Lynyrd Skynyrd as a permanent member in the mid-1990s. Rickey Medlocke was inducted into the NAMA Hall of Fame .
In 2007 the DVD Train, Train was released on the ATCO label with the following cast:
- Bobby Barth, guitar
- Charlie Hargrett, guitar
- Greg T. Walker, bass
- Michael Sollars, drums
The band could also be heard at concerts in the Blues Garage ( Isernhagen ) and in the Batschkapp ( Frankfurt am Main ) in 2009 and 2011 .
Blackfoot has been playing in a completely new line-up since 2012, after the old members gradually left the group. Rickey Medlocke acts as a producer who occasionally performs at concerts.
