Blackwater Valley Opera Festival
The Blackwater Valley Opera Festival (formerly the Lismore Opera Festival and Lismore Music Festival ) is a classical music and opera festival held annually in Lismore , County Waterford, Ireland. The festival was founded in 2010 by Jennifer O'Connell and the artistic director Dieter Kaegi and relaunched in February 2018 as the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival. In April 2019 the chairman of the festival announced that Eamonn Carroll would take over the new direction of the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival.
Previous events consisted of three opera evenings in the stable yard of Lismore Castle . Concerts have also been held in Lismore itself and in historic homes on the banks of the Blackwater River near the Cappoquin parish. These venues included Salterbridge House, Cappoquin House , Tourin House, Dromore Yard, and Lismore Cathedral .
In 2012, Irish President Michael D. Higgins opened the Festival of Music Education's annual school program.
Marco Zambelli was the festival's conductor for several years , except in 2016 when Killian Farrell conducted Così fan tutte . The 2019 festival took place from May 28th to June 3rd, 2019 under the direction of Darren Hargan.
